Appearance

Tall and well built, Kaecilius exhibits the typical traits of a young Colovian nobleman, coupled with the pride and confidence by which he carries himself and the balanced and decisive tone of his voice, he exemplifies the image of a proper officer of the Imperial Legion. Fair-looking with short brown hair, blue-grey eyes and -usually- a three-days beard, his rather stern features are easily swayed by his cheerful nature in the eyes of those who can manage to know him on a personal level.

He carries a few battle scars, one particularly prominent was the result of a clean cut that almost took his left eye; though he gives next to no importance to such features, no war stories to tell or close-encounters with death to brag about, “soldiers take hits, and that’s all there is to tell”.

Fully armored and weapon in hand, Kaecilius easily towers over his foes, his imposing silhouette and fierce attitude in combat are usually enough to terrify any common adversary ; but striking primal fear in the hearts of the simple-minded is not what sets him apart on the battlefield, for as expected from a soldier of his status, Kaecilius spent most of his youth and years of service tempering his martial technique, be it in hand-to-hand combat, daggers, sword and shield, bow or greatsword -his weapon of choice- “a weapon should be an extension of one’s own body, etch that deep enough in your mind and you’ll never find yourself disarmed”. Sure, he is no master swordsman of legendary renown, but he knows his way around a blade, enough to be as deadly as one would need to be.

Personality

Fairly learned when it comes to Imperial history and culture, Kaecilius knows that his convictions are not mere thoughts of an overly idealistic mind, but the continuation of a long tradition deeply-rooted in the very foundations of Tamrielic civilization, thus making him the farthest from being the easily swayed or the idiotically zealous kind, for his ideals are as real as the fires of Red Mountain, and his will to embody them is as unshakable as the Throat of the World.

Rarely speaks unless spoken to, well-spoken and eloquent when he speaks. Kaecilius usually shows a calm and composed attitude towards most situations, an expression of his reserved nature and his experience in the wilderness. But what would stand out most of his character is his discipline, dutifulness and unyielding sense of justice, Kaecilius sees himself first and foremost as an instrument of the Empire’s will, a shield that guards its citizens, and a sword that exacts Imperial justice upon those who seek to harm them. He still acts upon it even as the Empire lays in ruins, “the Empire is an idea, and ideas never die so long as there are men and women willing to believe in them and put everything on the line to see them manifest and take form”.

Backstory

Scion of House Corin :

Third son of Lord Claudius Corin and Lady Eloe Calpernia, Kaecilius grew up in the noble yet humble Corin Estate north of Kvatch. His elder brothers Marcus and Kordillus shouldering their house's responsibilities while growing up left him with the relative freedom to be a carefree young man, spending most of his time between combat training, studying and hunting, under the mentorship of his uncle Euphemius Calpernia.Euphemius is arguably the most influential figure in Kaecilius' upbringing. An honorably retired Legate of the Imperial Legion, he chose to settle down with his sister's family at the Corin Estate and spend his retirement tending to the training and education of his nephews in proper Imperial fashion ; though he took a special liking to young and curious Kaecilius, who in return saw him as a hero and an idol, and would follow him everywhere and try to imitate him in every manner and aspect. It is also worth noting that Kaecilius shared a very close friendship with his younger sister, Lucinia, definitely more than he did with his older, more serious and duty-driven brothers ; as children, the two were known as the household’s little rascals, being at the center of many memorable troubles.

At the age of 17, Kaecilius married his childhood friend Annabelle, daughter of one of his father’s trade partners and closest friend, a Breton nobleman named Gatien Valmont. Their union was a blessing to the family ; the cheerful and energetic girl was a sight for sore eyes and her presence and kind nature was enough to uplift the weariest of spirits.Sadly, these joyful days came to a cruel and abrupt end two years later when, while Kaecilius was away on a hunting trip, Annabelle was stabbed in the streets of Kvatch by a degenerate Dark Brotherhood wannabe for no purpose other than attempting to attract the nefarious guild’s attention. The poor girl slowly bled to death in Eloe’s arms, tears in her eyes with her last words being her wish to see her love one last time. The murderer was arrested while fleeing the scene, and later found dead in his own cell. “his body was slowly and painfully frozen and shattered bit by bit, from limbs inward, certainly by magical means ; atrociously savage, I wouldn’t wish such a death upon my worst enemy” would later attest an associate from Mages Guild who participated in the investigation.Coincidently, the murderer's atrocious death would occur the night after Kaecilius had returned from his trip and learned of his wife's fate. No one dared nor cared to make the connection.

Legionnaire :

Heartbroken and regretful, Kaecilius quickly packet whatever items of true value he had, bid his loving family farewell, and departed on a journey that would change his life forever, and give it a higher, unbreakable purpose, one he swore to live by till the moment he draws his last breath. Driven by the core values he was raised upon and a newfound will to protect and defend the innocent citizens wherever they were, from anything that would harm them. He made his way to the Imperial City and enlisted in the Legion, thus fully dedicating his life to the Cyrodiilic Empire under the newly crowned Emperor Varen Aquilarios. The following years would see him serve with honor and distinction, from camp to battlefield, and between the scarce comforts of a garrison and the harsh and unforgiving wilderness of the Empire's borders, his valor and combat prowess led him to become a decorated Centurion under the banner of the historical Fourth Legion in Black Marsh. It was at that point that he was selected to integrate the Corvus Irregulars, a secretive Imperial unit specializing in reconnaissance, subterfuge, sabotage and other sorts of guerrilla warfare ; naturally, all members of the Fourth Legion were his comrades, but it was these elite combatants that Kaecilius would call brothers and sisters at arms, under the leadership of their elusive field commander, Captain Lambert Arctus.

Knight-Errant :

The Planemeld caught the whole Empire off-guard, but Kaecilius more than most. His fellow Irregulars seemingly lost when the anchors fell, his Legion nowhere to be found when he finally made it back to Black Marsh, the Heartlands besieged from all sides by the forces of the Three Alliances. Kaecilius travelled the war-torn countries of Tamriel, a wandering knight protecting the powerless civilians, dispatching bandits and vultures, offering his services to this and that noble house in hopes to see them spearhead a revival of Imperial culture and might, before departing their ranks once their selfishness and decadence would come to light. And so it was, and so it would be, until he made it back to his home and familly in Kvatch, where, on one fateful night, in a modest tavern by the city's gate, he met Lord Volund Decentius ; the knight-errant was no more, and the legionnaire was once again reborn.
